Objectives & Functions
The Sports Department has been established for cultivating and nurturing the Sports Culture in the state. In accordance, the Sports Policy was created and implemented in the year 1996, 2001 and 2012. The Sports Department is working to create affirmative atmosphere for sports in the state and at the same time to promote the sports field.
Creation of basic sports infrastructure, provision of opportunity to upcoming players to train at the District Coaching Centres, provision of opportunity to players in the state to showcase the sports skills through the competitions organized from Taluka level to National level, provision of additional marks to the meritorious players in 10th and 12th with a reservation for such players in Government and Semi- Government jobs, financial assistance to players for preparation of
international competitions and for participating in such competitions, direct recruitment, awards and cash prizes to the players bringing laurels for the state are some of the major schemes which are inspiring the players to perform and give their best.
Through the scheme like Krida Prabodhini, the work of talent hunt and nurturing such talent is going on round the clock.
An ambitious scheme like Divisional Sports Complex at everydivisional headquarter, District Sports Complex at every District headquarter, and Taluka Sports Complex at every Taluka is assuring the availability of basic and advanced sports infrastructure across the state.
The educational institutes should promote sports. The Sports Department considers the performance of the institutions in the sports competitions and gives Incentive Grants to such institutions. For facilitating the players in school, schemes like Kridangan Vikas Anudaan Yojna and Vyayamshala Vikas Anudaan Yojna are functional across the state.
The institutions working in the field of youth welfare are being provided with financial assistance for organization of various programs. Also, such institutions are being given awards at district and state level.
