Mission Lakshyavedh

In order to ensure that athletes from the state perform commendably and win the maximum number of medals in important international competitions such as the Olympics, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games, it has been announced in the budget for the year 2023-24 that the “Mission Lakshyavedh” scheme will be implemented instead of the Olympic Abhiyaan. For this purpose, selective “High Performance Centres” will be established for 12 sports, which will include top-quality sports facilities and equipment, sports medicine science, sports coaches, sports equipment, incentives, and awards for athletes, along with the participation of domestic and foreign institutions for the development of athletes’ capabilities. Similar proficiency centres for selected sports will also be established at the district level under the Sports Talent Development Centres.

In the Olympic, Asian, and Commonwealth sports competitions, the medals won by Indian athletes, the participation of players from Maharashtra in these competitions, and the likelihood of winning medals at the international level in the near future have led to the classification of sports into categories ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, and ‘D’.

To promote these sports more by focusing more on the sports in category ‘A’, a High -Performance Centre will be established for 12 sports including Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Weightlifting, Hockey, Wrestling, Archery, Shooting, Rowing, Sailing, Lawn Tennis, And Table Tennis. Additionally, through this plan, well-equipped sports medicine laboratories will be set up in Nagpur, Kolhapur, Nashik, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. For other categories of sports, priorities have been set regarding the sports facilities to be provided to athletes and related entities, which include the services of foreign sports coaches, organizing sports competitions, financial assistance for athletes, awards and prizes, etc.

To streamline the players, sports coaches, and sports facilities in the state, assistance from information technology will be taken. By appointing experts from the field of information technology, a database of the sports sector will be created. This will involve the creation of an integrated system for Athletes’ personal information, performance, competitions, awards, certificates, evaluations, etc., thereby establishing a transparent and effective sports system that includes all components./p>
